Shopping – Clothes – Fashion

The other day I asked for suggestions on blog topics and one of them was “shopping/clothes/fashion.”  So here goes my take on those subjects.  This one’s for you Lovie!  >.<  Lov, you probably meant for these three topics to be covered generally throughout the entire blog post, but couldn’t help but break it down into three different pieces.

Shopping:  Those that know me well know that I like to save money when it comes to shopping.  When planning any kind of shopping trip to purchase items that are more than $5, I try to find coupons online and print them off before the shopping begins.  For my friends who enjoy saving money, the next time you are going somewhere, let’s say to buy clothes, try entering the store’s name followed by the word coupon into Google and see what you can find.  I use this trick when shopping at bookstores as well.  I even have an app on my phone that’s just for coupons.  :O)  Yes, I’m the crazy lady standing in line searching for coupon codes on my phone in order to save 30% on my purchase.

Clothes:  When it comes to clothes, there are several pieces in my closet that have been there for years.  Yes I wear them on a regular basis, but for me, if it’s not falling apart, then I’m going to wear it till it does fall apart, or it doesn’t fit anymore.  The fit aspect only applies if I gain weight and the clothes get too small, because I’m not opposed to wearing baggy clothes.  One of my favorite sweatshirts is WAY too big for me, but it was free and I’ve had it for over 10 years.  Even though I own more than eight different shirts (some which I don’t even wear anymore) I tend to wear those same eight shirts over and over.  Because I do not enjoy spending lots of money on clothes, I tend to buy the same thing in different colors, especially if it fits well.  This is probably why I shop at the same stores when I do decide to purchase anything new.  All of my jeans come from the same place because I know they fit and they last a long time, plus they usually run sales during the year or coupons come in the mail.  Hooray for saving money!  Maybe I should donate or sell the clothes I don’t wear anymore.

Fashion:  There are several people that I see around town who I truly believe have a sense of fashion.  I however, am not one of them.  To prove my point, here is just part of a conversation I had with my Mom one time.  “Hey Mom, does this shirt and jacket match?”  As she makes a funny face, her response is “Well, it’s not like you’re going on a date.”  She cracks me up!!!  I’m not one to wear ‘outfits.’  It is usually just whatever is clean at the time and what I think might match.  My fashion sense has never been for high fashion either.  It has to be simple and easy to wear.  I like the idea of dressing fancy or cute, but hardly ever do.  Even my black dress and high heels were both on sale.  To see cute clothes on others I often think, “Where do they get these adorable clothes?”  My lack of fashion sense stems from my lack of wanting to spend lots of money when purchasing clothes.  I try not to pay full price on any of my clothes, which is why it’s difficult for me to be into fashion.  Instead, I’ll just watch movies and TV shows and think about how cute the clothes are on that show and how much money I’m saving by not purchasing them.

If you happen to run into me multiple times during the week and I’m wearing the same shirt both days, it is because I’ve done laundry during the week, instead of waiting till the weekend, and can’t remember if I have worn that shirt Monday or Tuesday and now it’s Friday and that particular shirt seemed like a good one to wear that day.  Should I write down what clothes I wear and which days so I do not wear something twice in one week?  Okay, so that’s just my OCD showing up.  Forget I even mentioned writing down what I wear.  And just ignore the fact that I might possibly be wearing the same clothes twice in one week.  As long as they’re clean it shouldn’t really matter, right?

Needless to say, if you want fashion advice or to know if something matches, please don’t ask me.  I’ll probably think it looks adorable and then someone else might say it clashes and shouldn’t be worn together.  But that’s part of what makes me unique and I’m okay with that.

You have fine fashion sense! You’ve never worn anything inappropriate and that’s a pretty cool thing these days. You are a beautiful woman; inside AND outside!!!

Tell us where you get your jeans.

And you always look so put together!

And I love the couponing thing.

And on fashion sense, I love dreaming of emulating a movie characters entire wardrobe. Like Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses!

My jeans come from American Eagle. And yes I want Katherine’s wardrobe from that movie. You look super adorable all the time! Next time you need to go get stuff for your house try googling coupons. Can’t wait to go shopping with you for clothes sometime. ;0)
